Eyst Wins 2009 Lord Mayors Community Regeneration Award

EYST has been awarded the TOP AWARD in the recent Lord Mayor's Community Regeneration Awards in Swansea, winning OVERALL BEST Project for the SAFE Project, as well as BEST COMMUNITY SAFETY project. The event, held at Swansea's Brangwyn Hall was attended by a range of dignitaries including(pictured) Edwina Hart, the Welsh Assembly Health Minister, Taha Idris, Director of Swansea Bay REC, and Martin Jones Superintendent for South Wales Police.We were surprised and delighted to win this award in recognition of our work in Swansea.
EYST stands for Ethnic Youth Support Team.
EYST is a unique, beneficiary-led voluntary organisation whose management committee is made up of at least 51% ethnic minority young males aged under 25. It was set up in 2005 to fill a gap in provision and provide targeted and culturally appropriate mentoring , information and support to ethnic minority young males living in and around Swansea, in the areas of health, education, employment, citizenship and community safety.
EYST NEWS -
The New Urban Youth Centre based on St Helens Road Swansea will be opening on 1st July 2009. This will offer a range of activities to ethnic minority young people. Opening times 3-6pm, Monday - Friday.
Girls Development Project has now started. This will support ethnic minority young females aged 11-25.
